Spili is built amphitheatrically in the center of the prefecture of Rethimno on a western slope of Mount Kedros, which is a southwest extension of Psiloritis, at an altitude of 430 m, which supplies the village with running waters with its springs. It is popular with walkers & nature lovers because of the wild orchids, flora and the beautiful mountain scenery. Spili has,a post office,a townhall,a police station,a hair dressers, a few supermarkets and restaurants/cafes. Spili has also many shops which sell natural products and handicrafts. There is also a museum at the end of the main path which has a collection of old historical Cretan handicrafts.The friendly hospitable people of Spili will welcome you, The locals work mostly with agriculture, animal farming and trade, But in recent years have become more involved in the tourist industry.
