An der südwestlichen Ecke der Präfektur Chania liegt Selino, eine hügelige Landwirtschaftsregion mit spektakulärem Blick über das Meer und mit vielen kleinen Dörfern, die für ihre byzantinischen Kirchen bekannt sind. Der Stadtteil wurde nach der im 13. Jahrhundert von den Venezianern in Paleochora erbauten Festung „Kastello Selino“ benannt. Das Dorf Kandanos ist die Hauptstadt der Provinz, aber Touristen kennen die Region vor allem wegen der beiden Küstenorte Paleochora und Sougia.

At the southwest corner of the prefecture of Chania is Selino, a hilly agricultural region with spectacular views over the sea and with many small villages known for their Byzantine churches. The district was named after the fortress „Kastello Selino“ built by the Venetians in Paleochora in the 13th century. The village of Kandanos is the capital of the province, but tourists know the region mainly for the two coastal towns of Paleochora and Sougia.
