Kouses ist ein kleines Bergdorf in der fruchtbaren Ebene von Messara. Es liegt auf einer Höhe von 130m an den nördlichen Ausläufern des Pyrgos-Hügels von Asterousia. Von dort hat man einen Panoramablick auf die Ebene von Messara. Durch traditionelle Steinhäuser und enge Gassen entstand eine malerische Dorflandschaft. Im Zentrum von Kouses befindet sich der wohl bekannteste Kräuterladen Kretas. Kafenion ist ein typisch griechisches Kaffeehaus. Sie befinden sich an der Hauptstraße von Kouses, sind sehr einfach eingerichtet und Sie kommen mit den Dorfbewohnern in Kontakt.
Ganz in der Nähe des Dorfes befinden sich die archäologische Stätte von Phaistos und die berühmten Strände Matala und Kommos.

Kouses is a small mountain village located on the fruitful Messara plain. Its position is at an altitude of 130m. at the northern foothills of the Pyrgos hill of Asterousia. From there the view is panoramic to the plain of Messara. Traditional stone house and narrow streets created a picturesque villagescape. In the centre of Kouses is probably the most famous herb shop in Crete. Kafenion is a typical, traditional Greek coffee house. They are located on the main street of Kouses, are very simply furnished andmeeting poin of the villagers for social exchange.
Very close to the village is the archeoligical site of Phaistos and the famous beaches Matala and Kommos.
