Gournes ist ein Touristenort, der 16 km östlich von Heraklion zwischen Kokkini Hani und Kato Gouves liegt. Das größere Gebiet von Gournes liegt auf einer großen, fruchtbaren Ebene mit Gemüseanbau und Olivenbäumen. Früher war es ein separates Dorf, aber die touristische Entwicklung der Region hat Gournes zu einem Teil der Küstenfront gemacht, die von Vathios Kambos aus beginnt und nach 23 km nach Malia endet.
Heute gibt es auf dem Gelände der ehemaligen amerikanischen Gurney-Basis in Gouves verschiedene Freizeitangebote der Gemeinde Hersonissos: Den Dinosaurierpark, das Planetarium, den Ausstellungsbereichs von Gournes, in dem viele bemerkenswerte Ausstellungen stattfinden und das berühmte eurasische Kreta-Aquarium.
Entlang der Straße zum Strand finden Sie mehrere kleine Sandstrände sowie Restaurants und Fischtavernen zum Mittagessen.

Gournes is a tourist resort located 16 km east of Heraklion, between Kokkini Hani and Kato Gouves. The greater area of Gournes lies on a large fertile plain with many open vegetable and olive cultivations. It used to be a separate village, but the tourist development of the area has made Gournes a part of the single most coastal front that starts from Vathios Kambos and ends after 23 km to Malia.
Today, on the site of the former American Gurney Base in Gouves there are various services of the municipality of Hersonissos, the dinosaur park, the planetarium, the Gournes Exhibition Area, where many remarkable exhibitions are hosted and the famous Eurasian Crete Aquarium.
Along the road to the beach you can find several small sandy beaches and restaurants and fish taverns for lunch.
