Apostoli

Apostoli

Apostoloi is located 4km west of Kastelli, just 4.1 km from this and lies on the northwest side of the Apostolian Plain. The settlement is divided into two districts, the Upper and Lower villages, with the earlier names Kamari and Ag. Apostles respectively. It has 320 residents and their main occupations are agriculture and livestock farming.
The settlement in the wider area of the Apostles seems to begin from the ancient times as ancient remains of a settlement of the Greco-Roman period have been found south of the village.
Taking a short stroll through the village, you will find several old houses, beautiful examples of 19th-century traditional architecture, many of which have been turned into guesthouses. Near the main road, in a prominent position, you will find the beautiful stone-built public fountain, which is a reconstruction of an old fountain, probably built during the Ottoman domination. There are also two old churches worth visiting: the two-room temple of the 19th century, dedicated to the Virgin Mary and the Archangel Michael, in the Upper Apostoloi and the frescoed Byzantine church of Agios Georgios in the Lower village.
